PACleanSweep to Incumbent Donors: Boycott Looming

PACleanSweep today announced a planned boycott of contributors to the re-election campaigns of incumbent state legislators as part of its goal to replace every member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly who is up for re-election in 2006.

The plan calls for publication of the identity of major donors on the PACleanSweep.com website and a boycott of those who contribute to incumbents after September 19

Volunteers are currently researching public records to determine those donating to political committees and the re-election campaigns of individual incumbents. Disclosures will be published online, and the PACleanSweep Board of Directors will authorize boycotts when appropriate in response to contributions made after September 19.

"We're going to do two things - reduce the flow of money and show the public who is helping incumbents maintain their grip on power," said PACleanSweep Chair Russ Diamond.

"We will follow the money. We will track down the individuals making the donations and expose the corporate interests they represent. If a PAC [Political Action Committee] is donating to a candidate, we'll find out who donates to that PAC," Diamond added.

PACleanSweep has no immediate plans to boycott past campaign contributors, and believes the September 19 deadline gives adequate advance notice.

"These career politicians have betrayed Pennsylvanians and violated their oaths of office. We're giving fair warning to their potential campaign contributors - you're either with us or against us," Diamond announced.

"We feel this is the appropriate course of action," added PACleanSweep Strategy Chair Mike Bergmaier. "Incumbent lawmakers have slapped taxpayers in the face and those who actively support the re-election of those lawmakers are doing the same."

PACleanSweep is a non-partisan effort dedicated to defeating incumbent lawmakers in the Pennsylvania General Assembly and replacing them with true public servants. For more information, please visit www.PACleanSweep.com.
