Top Ranking for PACleanSweep Hits: the PA Legislature!
House in 1st place, Senate not far behind

The recent revelation regarding computers within the House of Representatives accessing Bob Nye’s unclean website has spawned yet another discovery. The House system or computer assigned to the IP address 192.216.120.25 has been the top ranking visitor to the PACleanSweep.com website every month since its initial launch - with the exception of October 2005, when it placed a close second.

A review of PACleanSweep’s website statistics also listed computers or systems with IP numbers registered to the Senate (170.47.4.2 and 170.47.5.5) and the Pennsylvania Legislative Data Processing Center (216.157.112.2) which were regularly ranked in the top 30 visitors to PACleanSweep.com.

The four IP addresses amassed a total 212,171 hits at PACleansweep.com since July 18, 2005 when the site was launched in response to the now-infamous midnight pay raise. This figure equates to 6062 hits per week and 1212 hits per workday.

“In pouring over the materials provided by Bob Nye’s web hosting provider, the IP number assigned to the House got burned into my eyes,” said Russ Diamond, PACleanSweep founder and chair. “Later, when I spotted the same number at the top of our website statistics for March, I was astounded. I was even more shocked when I saw that the same IP number has dominated our rankings for months.”

Steve MacNett, General Counsel to Senate Republicans and Drew Crompton, Counsel to President Pro Tempore Bob Jubelirer, in a statement released March 23, defended Senate activity related to Nye’s site as “no different from viewing other media outlets available on the internet or, for that matter, reading an account in a newspaper.”

“Bob Nye’s site is not a media outlet, and neither is PACleanSweep.com,” added Diamond. “Both are pure political outlets aimed at influencing the outcome of elections. That any state employee - Senator, Representative or staffer - is spending time studying political information using a taxpayer computer is an insult to every single Pennsylvanian.

“It occurs to me that former State Representative Jeff Habay was convicted of similar malfeasance and lost his seat as a result. If public employees feel such a need for political information, they should get it on their personal time and stop using taxpayer equipment. It’s arrogant, unprofessional and yes - illegal conduct. These are some of the very reasons PACleanSweep came into existence.”

PACleanSweep is currently supporting 101 candidates for legislative positions as part of its ongoing effort to clean up Harrisburg.
