PACleanSweep Urges Voters to Declare Their Independence
PACleanSweep today urged all Pennsylvania voters to declare their independence from incumbents and politics as usual in Harrisburg by signing petitions for legislative challengers the grass roots movement has raised. Petitioning for Republican and Democratic candidates begins on Valentine's Day, February 14. Candidates must file their candidacy with the state by March 7 to qualify for the May primary. State House candidates need 300 valid signatures to have their name appear on the primary ballot, while state Senate candidates are required to collect 500. The group recently posted a primer on signing petitions and a "Pennsylvania Voter Survival Guide," a tool for locating PACleanSweep candidates, on its website at www.pacleansweep.com in an effort to get citizens personally involved with challengers to the culture of arrogance and greed in Harrisburg. "We've been saying 'enough is enough' for over seven months, and so have the people of Pennsylvania," said PACleanSweep chair Russ Diamond. "This is the first chance since November for citizens to make their voice heard, and we urge every registered voter to seek out PACleanSweep candidates and sign their petitions. We consider these petitions to be a modern day Declaration of Independence." Those who sign a petition must be registered to vote in the same party as the candidate listed on the petition and must reside in the candidate's district. Voters may only sign one petition for any state House seat and another for their state Senate seat - if their Senator is up for re-election this year. "This is the moment of truth," added Diamond. "If Pennsylvanians want to take back their government, this is their opportunity. We'll keep pounding the drum, but now it's really up to the residents of each legislative district." Discussion Group Reaches Milestone
