about PACleanSweep.com
PACleanSweep.com is an effort to return responsible and Constitutional government to the citizens of Pennsylvania and to restore honor, dignity and integrity to the halls of our state Capitol.
It began as an effort to clean house in the Pennsylvania General Assembly by raising challegers for every single incumbent office holder up for re-election in 2006.
The members of the General Assembly slapped taxpayers in the face on July 7, 2005 by awarding themselves a huge pay increase. While some members did vote "no" on the increase, their reasons are suspect and their silence on the issue - until the public furor reached a fevered pitch weeks later - bears no explanation. They did it once, and they could just as easily do it - or something worse - again. Our state government is out of control and it's time to take it back. ENOUGH is ENOUGH.
PACleanSweep.com was launched on July 18, 2005, but is not a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Constitution, Green or Reform Party movement. It's us vs. them. The governed vs. the government. The taxpayers vs. the tax wasters.
Were you outraged at the unconstitutional legislative pay raise? Are you ticked off about their absolute failure to enact meaningful property tax reform? Are you pleased that the size and scope of government has ballooned at more than twice the rate of inflation over the last four years? Are you fed up? Are you genuinely ready to make a real change in Pennsylvania? If so, this is your chance to set things straight.
In 2005, PACleanSweep successfully helped the first ever non-retention effort of a state Supreme Court Justice in Pennsylvania, as Justice Russell Nigro was forcibly retired by the voters. We also opposed the retention of Justice Sandra Newman, but she won by a very narrow margin. Since then, Justice Newman retired, opining that serving on the Court was no longer any fun given the level of voter scrutiny.
In 2006, PACleanSweep helped raise over 100 candidates for legislative office in Pennsylvania. 35 won their primary, 7 of whom defeated an incumbent. 47 participated in the general election, and 11 of those won a seat in the General Assembly. In all, 55 incumbents lost their seats in 2006; 24 by electoral defeat or disqualification, and 31 who chose to retire rather than face the voters.
In 2008, all 203 members of the House of Representatives and the 25 Senators from odd-numbered districts face re-election. Pennsylvanians can give them all a run for their money by supporting qualified candidates to challenge incumbent lawmakers.
The incumbents are hoping you'll eventually forget the pay raise fiasco and all their other failures. PACleanSweep.com is hoping you won't. Together, we can do more than just talk and complain - we can take back our Commonwealth, our Constitution and our future, once and for all.
PACleansweep.com is looking for founding fathers for a new Pennsylvania. Founding mothers, too.
